What kind of department stores are located downtown?
Q. Wal-mart has recently been labeled as theIdentityy of America. But there are not many downtown locations of the super store, as well as it's competitor Target. So can anyone tell me for a city like New York, what department store options do you have to buy say a light bulb that you can't get at a grocery store. What stores sell biodegradable silverware?
Q. I'm planning an event that needs biodegradable silverware. But the only places I'm seeing that sell them are online. Unfortunately, I've waited til the last minute, and need to get them fast! A. You want silverware, like metallic and shiny? I'm not sure metal is that biodegradable. Why not try something like cornstarch utensils? If you're willing to go to Palo Alto, there's a store called World Centric which sells all sorts of biodegradable products, including utensils. I know that High Tech Burrito in Los Gatos uses biodegradable utensils, you could ask if you can take them. This is their website, just scroll down to "Los Gatos"

A. You will most likely need to go to a kitchen wares specialty store. I bought one long ago but I live in Louisiana and it is almost the law to have Cajun injectors down here lol. If you have never fried a turkey remember not to overfill the pot and when it looks cooked enough you need to cook it twice as long. Good luck on your Turkey - we cook them every year!

A. The only merch I ever see sitting out of retail stores is too heavy to hoist, chained to the ground, or monitored with cameras. Other than that, I guess they rely on the honor system, or having enough customers to tattle on each other.

How do stores that import expensive foods from all over the world make a profit in a bad economy?
Q. Stores like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods have extremely elegant, yet pricey food from all over the world for sale. In a good economy where people have money to spare I can see how they would turn a good profit. In a bad economy I can't see how expensive import stores could make money. What do they change to still make money in a bad economy that they would not otherwise do if the economy is good? Thanks so much!

A. I can only speak for Abercrombie & Fitch (and Hollister since it's owned by A&F and we do everything the same) but general store do these things around the same time. The spring clothes are out but we're doing a big floorset (adding a ton of clothes) the week of March 21st guys will be done by Wednesday and girls will be done by Friday

What can electronic stores do about a computer with pirated software?
Q. I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the whole concept of pirated (stolen) music, movies, software etc. Regardless of your opinion on the whole subject, my question is relating to the actuality of what can/should/ is done about these laws. If someone were to take their computer in to an electronics store to have something repaired or cleaned, etc, do those stores report the person? Or is there some kind of confidentiality agreement. I suppose with movies and music it would be hard to tell, but I guess my question relates more specifically, but is not limited to software.

A. They won't actually do anything. It would hurt their business. Besides, why would they bother checking if your copy was legit, perhaps you just changed a Network card and added memory. They could refuse to work on it though. What could happen, is if they have to format, they will charge you for installing a legit copy, since they will not install an illegal one. Another little hint, don't bother with SP3, IE7 or IE8. Sp3 uses a lot of resources for security and such that joe average doesn't need. lol, who is going to hack my computer for the 99 cents I keep in my aux account. *lol*

For those who work in women's clothing stores: What store and what size mannequins do they use?
Q. I've always been curious about whether different stores use different clothing size mannequins to display clothes. I am wondering if it is true. So if you work in a clothing store, could you tell me what the name of the store is and also what size (US clothing size) display mannequins the store uses. For example, I would expect that Lane Bryant would use larger mannequins than Abercrombie, but it would be interesting to see if that's true. Thanks.

A. I worked in a national department store. In the misses (adult ladies) dept, we would put size small/size 6 on the mannequins. Often we had to pin the clothes to keep them on. Lingerie models wore a 36B/C and a small panty. Petites sometimes were adult mannequins (with flat feet, or sometimes no feet at all) and sometimes juniors mannequins, depending on the season and the clothes being displayed. There were no mannequins in the plus size department. In Juniors, the mannequins wore the smallest size available (usually a 3), and we *always* had to pin the clothes to make them smaller. In mens, the mannequin usually wore a 34/36 pant, and a medium shirt. Children's had about six different size models, and I don't remember their sizes.

A. :) is it a convention you're going to, by any chance? Anyways, as for shoes at malls/local stores...hrm...thats a bit difficult. I was actually looking for some lolita shoes myself, and I think that you should look through stores like Robert Wayne, Target, Charlotte Russe (they have some cute flats that could work), Payless (and believe me, 0.0 they actually had shoes in the kid's section that looked like carbon copies of AP and Btssb shoes!). I would stay away from Hot Topic, unless you're certain you can coordinate with their chunky/plasticky boots, and especially since you're doing sweet, less reason for Hot Topic. ^_^ I'm sorry that I can't be of much help, but really the best option is ordering online from brands like Double Decker.
