IDEAS................??
Q. Does anyone have any ideas for "themes" for a club called "The Diversity Club" which is also known as "Students Taking Action Regarding Tolerance". Thanks so much!
Asked by Cory - Wed Sep 17 20:26:30 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Do different things each week that can be educational. For one, you could feature a student and do a write-up on them, always making sure you include kids that don't fit your diversity message, otherwise it is useless. Just a one page interview with a pic and post it on bulletin boards. This will instill pride in a lot and many will read and want to be interviewed. Other things you can do is have events maybe once a month, like a meet and greet.

What ideas do you have for a school dance being done as fundraiser?
Q. My community service group is doing a coat drive and we thought maybe a dance would be a fun way to get the kids involved in charities. So far we have one idea of how were going to get kids to give in jackets. (A raffle) We need more ways to get them to bring coats. Any ideas? Also the dance is being held october 30th with sort of a halloween theme. If you'd give me decor (decoration) ideas that'd be nice too.

Any ideas on how to get my dogs involved with crafts for Christmas gifts?
Q. This is an odd question, I know. But my mother in law really loves crafts, and our three dogs. I was thinking about getting our dogs involved in making stuff for her for a Christmas present. Maybe have them put their paw prints all over something with paint or something. But I can't think of any good ideas. I tried looking it up online, but couldn't find anything. Apparently this is a weird idea! Any awesome ideas? I'd love the help. Thanks!!

What are good ideas for church nursery activities?
Q. I'm starting a nursery class at my church for newborns to 2 years old. I was looking for some ideas on what to do with the kids. I have a 2 year old and a newborn so I sorta have an idea of what the kids will be able to do. My pastor is going to order some materials but that will take a few weeks and I want to start the class this Sunday. Right now my only ideas are to make coloring sheets with the alphabet and a picture that goes with it (A is for Angel, B is for Bible, etc) and to read Bible stories. Any other ideas?

A. This age is a little young to do too much, but it's also an age where you don't need a lot of expense or supplies to keep them entertained. Imagination is so much more effective! Let's see...those ideas are good; also: 1. Put on a puppet show (to tell a Bible story) 2. Have Bible-themed snacks (goldfish crackers along with telling about the boy with the fish & bread) 3. Play dress-up as Bible characters (Use simple sheets or ask people in your church if they have some fun old clothes, scarves & sandals to donate. A couple paper crowns from Burger King for King David & Queen Esther, etc.) 4. Make a Bible memory card game yourself with simple pictures from the Bible. Fish, sheep, cross, Bible, manger, altar, angels, etc. The list of… [cont.]

Any ideas on how to serve community service?
Q. I've reasently been inducted into the national honor society at my high school. As a membership requirement we have to serve a minimun of 12 hours community service each semester. The problem is, I have no idea what kinds of things to do!! Baby sitting and church projects don't count. Plese help me come up with ideas. When ever I think of community service I think of picking up trash by the side of the road in a bright orange jump suit and having all the cars driving by and laughing at the teenage screw up. I really, really don't want to do that. Does anyone have any fun ideas about what type of community service projects I could do?

A. That's a different kind of community service. The orange jump suit crew doesn't need you. Though if you want to volunteer for a roadside cleanup or a stream or lake side clean up volunteer with an ecology group that adopts a stream or a roadside. This would be with a bunch of ppl who care about ecology and are decent folks. You can probably find a group that adopts specific areas like that through your state dept of natural resources or local park dept. For other kinds of community service call the United Way or Volunteer Bureau in your area or look in the yellow pages or talk to your school counselor about groups in the area that help people in need. Any ideas for Ice breaker games for international college students?
Q. I am hosting monthly get togethers for a group of international students from all over the world. I need ideas that will be fun and non-threatening since many of them will not be super comfortable in English. The main idea is to have fun and get to know each other. Any ideas?

A. I don't know if this would work, but you could pair up the students. Have them interview each other by asking basic questions like their name, major, goals in life, hobbies, etc. Then they will get up in front of the entire group and take turns introducing their partner using that information.

What are some good ideas for stocking stuffers and Christmas decorations?
Q. This is the first Christmas my husband and I are having together and I haven't decorated for Christmas for as long as I can remember. My family never really decorated after my parents got divorced and I never helped before then because I was too young. My husband and I are decorating this year though, and other than the tree and lights, I really can't think of any other good ideas. I know he will have a few, but I want as many ideas as I can get. Also what are some good ideas for things to put in stockings, because I want to do that this year too and I've never had one before. It's just me and my husband and our cat. No children. Any ideas you have would be helpful. Thanks.

A. Depends on your budget... We're having our first family Christmas since my father died (August), so we're thinking about having Christmas at my house instead of my mother's. For us, the real memories come with the traditions and the handmade things...I've embroidered stockings for everyone in the family, my mother made the tree skirts we use...we still put up the little silver aluminum tree my grandmother bought for $1.98 in the early 1960's...and every "after Christmas" we go to the Hallmark store and buy 1 ornament for each of the kids (I usually get one or two for myself). The best part is for you and hubby and kitty to go shopping together (try a pet store that allows pets to come in!). Think outside the box - how about one of those… [cont.]

A. You can pursue the disclosure idea but I would leave the tree alone. The tree and the damage have survived many storms. Do not use concrete or any kind of sealer, it will antagonize the damage. Getting someone to look at it would be a good idea. They will probably recommend remedial pruning to stabilize the tree. RScott

What are some ideas for a high school level science research project?
Q. I'm interested in doing a project involving chemistry (interested in anesthesia), but I have a difficult time trying to come up with ideas. I'm staying away from biology because since many people do that, it's harder to place in a competition. I accept challenging ideas as well, but any basis to construct my own idea upon will do.

A. Do something fun like the chemistry involved in cooking. Something chefs deal with everyday.

Any ideas on something creative to do for this old window w/frame?
Q. I have this old window whose frame is painted on one side (the side that would show if you were to hang it on a wall). I was initially thinking of painting on it, then thought to use it as a collage frame and put photos on it. Any ideas or website ideas appreciated. Thanks!

A. Using it a picture frame is a great idea. Another thing I've seen done with old windows is to make a coffee table. You could do both. Put the pic under the table and you can see them thru the window/table.

A. There are a lot of great little "tins" you can get at a relatively reasonable price. (I like the ones on www.myjean.com). You can decorate them with photo's of the wedding couple or whatever you want really. You might also want to consider little rice boxes. (Like the ones you would get from Chinese Restaurants but WAY smaller). Essential Packaging has some really cute ones! Hope that helps... Cijaye DePradine.

What are some ideas of decorating a teen's bedroom?
Q. I'm getting tired of my bedroom that I decorated in first grade and I need ideas on how to redecorate my room when on a low budget. I'm definitely going to paint my walls, and I despise my purple carpet, though I don't have enough money to get it lifted up and then sanding&etc the hardwood below it. Any ideas or examples of bedrooms that I could get ideas from would help...I'm kind of looking for a beachy theme, but I'm not very picky =) Thanks! -Jackie

A. Flying from Florida to Alaska is a long trip. Depending on the airline you fly, maybe there will be a small TV in the back of the seat in front of you and you can watch movies and TV shows. Airlines also have different channels that play music. The airlines also have an in-flight magazine that you can read. There are some interesting articles in them. But to be safe, bring a book with you. The best thing to do is to try to sleep through the whole trip. That way you arrive at your destination refreshed. As for what to wear, wear something comfortable and bring a sweater or jacket which can be used a pillow or blanket. The inside of an airplane can be chilly at times and airlines may have gotten rid of pillows and blankets. Even if… [cont.]

Any ideas on how to explain your graphic designs better?
Q. Have you ever had that feeling of How to better explain your design to your clients, so they make less changes or so they prefer your design & not whatever funny ideas they have in their heads. Well anybody have any tips on How to better explain your design to your clients? Post them here in my comments area. One idea i'm looking into is the use of NLP to explain our designs so they can be more readily accepted & less changes made. So any NLP experts here can help with some scripts that would be great.

A. say it with pictures, rough drafts, sketches, mock ups. Money talks as well, if you can convey to them that the utilization of your ideas will save them money in the long run... Many clients already have a very firm idea of what they want. I work in printing and can tell you that the customer does not always want the possible. There are a lot of things that printers find difficult and will charge a ton of extra $ and there are certain things that have to be fought by the printer because the client wont budge. Sometimes we just have to realize that the customer wants what they want and no amount of cajoling, insisting, or anything else can change that fool head...good luck. I cannot tell you how many art peices I have done fo rpeople… [cont.]
