Finishing is the procedure that some single malt Scotch whisky undergoes whereby the spirit is matured in a cask of a particular origin and then spends time in a cask of different origin. Typically, the first cask is an American oak cask formerly used to mature bourbon. The second cask is usually one that has been used to mature some sort of fortified wine, often sherry, though sometimes port, madeira, or even standard wines such as burgundy or chardonnay.

Some of the more well-known finished whiskies include Balvenie "Double Wood", which is finished in sherry casks, Glenlivet "American Oak Finish" and "French Oak Finish", which are finished in brand-new casks of the respective woods, and the Glenmorangie range of sherry, port, madeira, and burgundy finishes.

What do you think would be the easiest finishing move to escape?
Q. Name the top 3 finishing moves (no.1 being most) that would be realy easy to escape And the top 3 that would be really easy to reverse. Mine would be the 619 for escaping. And the Ric Flair figure-4-leg-lock where he dances around a bit before actually doing it.

Why does my package of Porter-Cable galvanized finishing nails say not to use them outside?
Q. I bought Porter-Cable galvanized, 15 ga. finishing nails to use in laying deck boards (5/4" cedar). When I began I noticed the package says "Not for outdoor use - For interior only." What's up with that? I thought galvanized nails were exactly what you wanted for outdoor work. Any ideas about WHY it says not to use them outdoors, and more important, do you think it would be OK to use them for this purpose despite what the package says? Thanks!

A. First of all, they are not hot-dipped galvanized, they are electroplated. That's why they are not rated for exterior use. Second, galvanized screws or nails react with the acids in cedar or redwood, and will turn black. This will cause streaking. The best thing to secure your deck boards is stainless deck screws. For 5/4" boards, you will want to use 2-1/2" screws. They are expensive, but worth it. Finish nails will never hold deck boards down. Once the sun hits them, they will pull out. I'd definitely recommend the screws.

Does finishing off a loan payment early help a credit score?
Q. I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question. But is there any benefit credit-wise in finishing off loan payments early if that's even possible? Or do I just finish off my payment on time and as scheduled according to the contract?

A. paying it off early won't hurt or benefit your credit rating. if your goal with the loan is to establish or improve your credit rating it's probably better to make the monthly payments as agreed (on time!) the only benefit you have to paying it off early is probably paying less interest (assuming interest is compounded periodically and was not added on to the loan in one lump sum)
