What happens if your in Airguard and go AWOL?
Q. My fiance is in the Air National Guard. Right now he is in Tech School (so he is under active duty orders currently) and is in the process of being discharged. He was admitted to the hospital for a week and was baker acted. He suffers from anxiety attacks, doesn't sleep, hardly eats, and is very depressed (when hospitalized they admitted him under Homicidal Depression). Even given medication it doesn't work. It just makes him sleep for a little bit and wakes up feeling the same if not worse. They are telling him the discharge process takes a minimum of 3weeks. he has been talking with different airman and different people have told him it could take from 3weeks to however long the command feels. He says he cant stand it and he sounds… [cont.]

A. You go to jail, and receive a Dishonourable Discharge, which instantly voids any and all benefits he may have had owing, including pay. Additionally, he would not be allowed to claim any courses (from what I understand), nor any time worked. Essentially he'll basically have a gap in his resume. That all being said, he can be granted an early/faster discharge for Medical Reasons if the Doctor attending his case believes it warranted. Good Luck!
